Since 2006, Cartier has been a trailblazer in supporting female entrepreneurs whose businesses have a positive impact on society and the environment. Through the Cartier Women’s Initiative program, Cartier provides grant money, networking opportunities, loans, and professional advice to women-owned or female-led businesses from any sector, helping them overcome obstacles like underfunding and lack of access.
In a groundbreaking move, Cartier introduced a new diversity, equity, and inclusion pilot award in 2023, welcoming entrepreneurs of any gender whose businesses promote opportunities for underrepresented groups. This shift in focus attracted a diverse pool of applicants, with 20% identifying as male in the D.E.I. award category.
Cyrille Vigneron, Cartier’s president and CEO, emphasized the importance of inclusivity, stating, “Our objective is to create a sense of belonging in a more inclusive world.” This sentiment was echoed by Wingee Sin, the global program director of the Cartier Women’s Initiative, who highlighted the significance of supporting businesses that address inclusion challenges.
Cartier’s commitment to diversity and empowerment has evolved over the years, culminating in the awarding of over $9.5 million in grants to entrepreneurs from 60 countries. The program consists of a jury that selects winners in various categories, including D.E.I., with finalists receiving grants and other benefits.
Last year, the top prizes in the D.E.I. category were awarded to men, underscoring the program’s gender-inclusive approach. This year’s finalists include innovative entrepreneurs like Sadriye Gorece, Erica Cole, and Akshita Sachdeva, who are leveraging technology to make a positive impact in their communities.
The winners of this year’s Cartier Women’s Initiative will be announced at an award ceremony in Shenzhen, China, on May 22. This choice of location reflects Cartier’s recognition of China’s vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem and commitment to fostering female entrepreneurship on a global scale.
