Kevin Durant has now established his presence in the realm of European soccer, following the footsteps of several American sports stars who have ventured into this domain.
As reported by The Athletic on Monday, the NBA champion and Phoenix Suns forward has acquired a minority stake in the prominent French soccer club, Paris Saint-Germain. Sources reveal that Durant’s investment firm, Boardroom, has obtained a share through a separate financial mechanism set up by Arctos Sports Partners, already associated with PSG.
During his stint in Paris for the Olympic Games, where he clinched his fourth gold medal, Durant, along with Rich Kleiman, Boardroom’s co-founder and his manager, paid a visit to PSG’s modern training facility located in Poissy, west of Paris. The duo met with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, and discussions surrounding the agreement took place.
Exploring PSG and Boardroom
Paris Saint-Germain stands out as a powerhouse in European football, with their men’s team reigning supreme as the most successful in France, boasting a 12-time domestic league title record. Following an acquisition by Qatar Sports Investments in 2011, the club has garnered 32 trophies and signed global football stars like Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Furthermore, their robust social media presence and diverse sports teams beyond soccer have contributed to their extensive commercial success.
Boardroom, on the other hand, represents a dynamic sports, media, and entertainment brand co-founded by Durant and Kleiman. It operates in conjunction with Boardroom Sports Holding LLC, showcasing ventures in various emerging sports entities, including PSG.
