When 0-3 spells danger, 0-4 can mean disaster for an NFL team. This Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Cincinnati Bengals, both with high expectations, could find themselves in a tough spot.
Before the season, the Minnesota Vikings–Green Bay Packers matchup might not have seemed like a marquee game in Week 4. However, with Sam Darnold’s resurgence, Brian Flores’ innovative defense, and Malik Willis’ impressive backup performance, this game has become a must-watch.
Elsewhere, the Pittsburgh Steelers seem to have found their starting quarterback in Justin Fields, who faces off against Anthony Richardson and the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday.
As we look ahead to Week 4 games, there are plenty of intriguing storylines. Mike Sando, Zak Keefer, and Jeff Howe from The Athletic provide their insights.
The Jaguars (at Houston) and Bengals (at Carolina) are battling to avoid an 0-4 start. Both teams had high expectations coming into the season. Which team should be more concerned about the direction of their season?
Sando: Jacksonville! The Jaguars are facing serious questions about their football operations, their highly-paid quarterback, and their overall performance. The Bengals have it easier in comparison.
Keefer: I agree with Mike on this one. Joe Burrow has shown improvement in the past two weeks, while Trevor Lawrence seems lost. If the Jaguars don’t turn things around soon, major changes could be on the horizon.
Howe: The lack of fight and leadership in Jacksonville has been surprising. On the other hand, the Bengals are still talented enough to push for a playoff spot despite their defensive struggles.

In the Vikings-Packers clash, Sam Darnold and Malik Willis are key figures. How do you see this game unfolding?
Sando: The Vikings’ defense could give them the edge, especially if Jordan Love struggles. However, the Packers are still a strong team.
Keefer: While Darnold and Willis have shined, the defenses will play a crucial role in this game. It’s not just about the quarterbacks, but also about the defensive strategies.

Howe: Brian Flores’ defense could pose a challenge for the Packers’ quarterbacks. Darnold’s resilience will be tested, and this game could shape the Coach of the Year conversation.
The Steelers look to maintain their winning streak against the Colts. Has Justin Fields secured the starting job over Russell Wilson?
Sando: Sticking with Fields is the right move unless he falters significantly. There’s no rush to bring Wilson back if Fields is performing well.
Keefer: Fields has earned the starting role with his solid play. Unless he underperforms, Wilson might not see much action this season.

Howe: Fields has been playing responsibly and effectively, aligning well with the team. It’s unlikely he will lose his starting job if he maintains his current performance level.
Jayden Daniels leads the Commanders against the Cardinals after a stellar ‘Monday Night Football’ performance. What stands out about Daniels’ season so far?
Sando: Daniels’ composure and ability to make plays under pressure have been impressive, especially in critical moments.
Keefer: Daniels is the best rookie QB this season, thanks to the offensive strategy that suits his skills. The Commanders are handling his development exceptionally well.
Howe: Daniels’ performance could elevate the Commanders to playoff contention. However, his durability will be a key factor as he faces tougher opponents.
Seattle and Detroit have had contrasting starts to the season. Have your expectations for these teams changed?
Sando: Seattle’s defense will be tested against Detroit, raising questions about their opponents’ offensive capabilities.
Keefer: Seattle’s perfect record will be tested in a real challenge against the Lions. The NFC North remains a tough division for Detroit.
Howe: Despite injuries, Seattle has shown resilience and remains a playoff favorite. Detroit’s strong performances make them a contender in the NFC North.
