Get ready baseball fans, because history is about to be made at Fenway Park on Monday!
It all started back on June 26 when the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays faced off. The game was suspended due to rain with Danny Jansen, then playing for the Blue Jays, at the plate. Now, on August 26, they will finally finish what they started in the first game of a doubleheader.
But here’s where things get really interesting – Jansen was traded to the Red Sox on July 27. This means that he could potentially play for both teams in the same game, a first in MLB history!
Red Sox manager Alex Cora has confirmed that Jansen will be subbing in to continue the suspended game. It’s a surreal moment for Jansen, who said, “I don’t even know how this works. That’d be funky.”
The Athletic’s Jayson Stark recently delved into the unique situation, highlighting the unprecedented nature of Jansen’s upcoming appearance for both teams.

Danny Jansen could make history by playing for Red Sox and Blue Jays in the same game
Since joining the Red Sox, Jansen has been performing well, batting .257 with a .794 OPS in 13 games.
But the Blue Jays have some surprises up their sleeves too. Jose Berrios will be taking over the mound when the game resumes, even though Yariel Rodriguez was the original starter. This will be Berrios’ first relief appearance in over 166 straight starts.
And to add to the excitement, Rodriguez will start the following day, making him the starter on back-to-back days – sort of. The suspended game from June will officially be recorded as having taken place on August 26.
