Democrats urge Biden to drop out amid mounting pressure

Recent whispers within the Democratic Party suggest that President Biden’s re-election campaign may not be sustainable, according to interviews with over 50 Democrats. Concern is growing among party members that sticking with Biden as their candidate could jeopardize their chances of keeping the White House and impact down-ballot candidates.

Some Democrats, like Representative Scott Peters of California and Representative Angie Craig of Minnesota, are publicly calling for Biden to step aside and make way for a different candidate. Others have expressed doubts about Biden’s ability to run a successful campaign against Donald Trump, with some citing concerns about his age and performance.

Despite public displays of support for Biden, including from some high-ranking officials, private conversations reveal a growing sense of unease about his candidacy. A White House official who has worked closely with Biden has even suggested that he should not seek re-election due to signs of aging and fatigue.

While Biden has vowed to stay in the race, calls for him to step aside are becoming more vocal within the Democratic Party. Delegates are organizing to show support for a different candidate, and some lawmakers are considering breaking publicly from Biden. Campaign donors are funding polling to explore alternatives, indicating a shift in sentiment within the party.

As the debate about Biden’s candidacy intensifies, the party is grappling with the possibility of finding a new nominee so close to Election Day. While some Democrats remain steadfast in their support for Biden, others are weighing the potential benefits of a change in leadership. The coming weeks may bring further clarity on the party’s path forward.
