Expert predictions for WNBA champ: Aces or Liberty? Play resumes soon!

After a month without WNBA basketball, fans are eagerly anticipating the return of their favorite teams and players. The league’s best teams, like the New York Liberty and the Las Vegas Aces, are gearing up for an exciting second half of the season.

As we look ahead to the remainder of the WNBA season, let’s make some bold predictions:

Which team will make a second-half surge?

Sabreena Merchant: The Minnesota Lynx have the potential to make a strong comeback in the second half. With Napheesa Collier back in action and a favorable schedule ahead, the Lynx are poised to climb up the standings and make a playoff push.

Ben Pickman: Keep an eye on the Atlanta Dream as they look to bounce back in the second half of the season. With key players returning from injury, the Dream could be a team to watch as they aim to improve their standing.

What is your biggest question?

Pickman: Will any Olympic stars who are not currently signed make a difference in the latter part of the season? Players like Emma Meesseman, Gabby Williams, and Marine Johannes could potentially join WNBA teams and impact the playoff race.

Merchant: Do the Las Vegas Aces have what it takes to three-peat as champions? With a challenging schedule and key players logging heavy minutes, the Aces face an uphill battle to defend their title.

Who will win Rookie of the Year?

Merchant: Caitlin Clark is the frontrunner for Rookie of the Year honors. Her stellar performance on the court has helped elevate the Indiana Fever, despite facing strong competition from Angel Reese.

Pickman: Caitlin Clark’s impressive play and impact on the Fever make her a strong contender for Rookie of the Year. With her leadership and skills, Clark has the potential to lead Indiana to success in the playoffs.

Who will win MVP?

Pickman: A’ja Wilson is the top candidate for MVP this season. Her exceptional performance and leadership make her a standout player in the league.

Merchant: A’ja Wilson’s consistent excellence on the court makes her a deserving candidate for MVP honors. With a strong second half of the season, Wilson could solidify her place among the WNBA greats.

Who will win the WNBA championship?

Merchant: Despite past disappointments, the New York Liberty are my pick to win the WNBA championship. With a deep roster and strong performances, the Liberty could claim their first title this season.

Pickman: While the New York Liberty have been impressive, I believe the Las Vegas Aces will ultimately clinch the championship. With star players like A’ja Wilson and Jackie Young leading the way, the Aces have the talent to secure another title.
