Caitlin Clark is leaving her mark on WNBA history once again, solidifying her place as one of the best passers in the league. Setting records and breaking barriers, Clark’s rookie season is shaping up to be one for the books.
Already holding the record for most assists in a single game with an impressive 19, Clark added another achievement to her name by surpassing Ticha Penicheiro’s record for total assists by a rookie. Penicheiro had held the record with 225 assists for the Sacramento Monarchs in 1998, but Clark surpassed that mark in just 28 games with the Indiana Fever.
With a slow start to the season, Clark has picked up steam in the last 16 games, averaging close to a double-double with 18.9 points and 9.6 assists per game. Her standout performances include a 29-point, 10-assist game against the Phoenix Mercury and a 23-point, 9-assist game against the Seattle Storm.
As the WNBA leader in assists per game at 8.3, Clark has the potential to break more records as the season progresses. With the Fever sitting at 13-15 and in seventh place in the standings, Clark’s contributions have been crucial to their success. With their eyes set on the playoffs, the Fever have the second-easiest schedule remaining, giving them a good chance to secure a spot.
