The days were long, but the months were short. Finally, college football has returned full tilt. There was plenty to overreact to and even things that probably aren’t being discussed enough relative to their impact on the 2024 season. Some early conclusions will hold weight into October and November, while others will feel like distant memories. But all we have is right now, so let’s have some fun with the narratives at play in the first full week of the season.

Underreaction: Georgia’s dominance in preparation games
Slow starts among big favorites were common around the sport during Week 0 and Week 1. Georgia, however, proved immune to such woes with an impressive win over No. 14 Clemson. Their 40th consecutive regular-season win showcases their sharp execution when given extended time to prepare.
Overreaction: The perceived state of Michigan’s offense
Michigan fans are left questioning their team’s offense after a lackluster performance. But with several new key players, the team needs time to build chemistry and continuity for success.

Notre Dame’s offense deserves more attention for its effectiveness despite modest numbers on paper. The new offensive coordinator’s strategy and the team’s adaptability were key to their win.
Overreaction: Heisman moments, odds, and anything in between
Star debuts in Week 1 sparked Heisman conversations, but it’s too soon to crown any favorites. Team success will play a crucial role in determining contenders as the season progresses.
Underreaction: Did Penn State have the second most impressive win?
Penn State’s road victory against a rival showcased their strength, but it may have been overlooked amid other headline games. The team’s new offensive coordinator and promising debut performances are worth noting.
One properly-rated reaction: Billy Napier’s hot seat
Florida’s loss has put pressure on head coach Billy Napier, who must now navigate a challenging schedule to keep his job status secure. The post-game reactions and fan sentiment reflect the urgency for a turnaround in Gainesville.
