Anthony Edwards has sparked a heated debate among NBA legends with his bold statements about the generations of players that came before him. Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas have weighed in, setting the stage for some intense offseason NBA beef.
In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Edwards showcased his trademark confidence, declaring that he hasn’t found anything he’s bad at and recounting his favorite moment from the Olympics: dunking on Kevin Durant in practice.
When asked about the differences between today’s basketball players and those from previous eras, Edwards, born in 2001, didn’t hold back. He suggested that older players lacked skill, with Michael Jordan being the lone exception. This remark didn’t sit well with Magic Johnson, who emphasized that Edwards needs to win a championship before making such claims.
Isiah Thomas also joined the discussion, cautioning against believing in propaganda and questioning the evolution of player skills in the modern era. Thomas highlighted that rule changes have influenced the perceived speed and skill of today’s players.
Edwards, known for his headline-grabbing quotes, has continued to make waves with his bold statements, including labeling himself as the No. 1 option for Team USA and referring to himself as “Black Jesus.” Despite his individual success, Edwards is still chasing his first NBA championship.
In his WSJ interview, Edwards revealed that he’s in no rush to secure a title, acknowledging that many players experience years of struggle before reaching that pinnacle. He remains focused on taking incremental steps towards achieving his ultimate goal.
