Exciting news for football fans as Mike Greenberg takes on the role of host for “Sunday NFL Countdown” on ESPN leading up to the 2027 Super Bowl. According to a source from The Athletic, Greenberg will be stepping in to replace Sam Ponder, who recently departed with a year left on her contract.
With an already established presence on ESPN through his shows “Get Up” and “Greeny,” Greenberg is a familiar face to viewers. His experience hosting the NFL Draft and brief stint as lead NBA host highlight his versatility and expertise in sports broadcasting.
At 57 years old, Greenberg’s selection as host over rising star Laura Rutledge showcases ESPN’s commitment to their veteran anchors. Rutledge, host of “NFL Live,” has now been passed over twice in the past year for prominent hosting roles.
In addition to Greenberg taking on “Sunday NFL Countdown,” ESPN has revamped their Monday Night Football program with Scott Van Pelt as host and Jason Kelce joining analysts Marcus Spears and Ryan Clark. The network is gearing up for a memorable season leading to the 2027 Super Bowl, which ESPN and ABC will be hosting for the first time ever.
Joining Greenberg on Sundays will be a lineup of football experts including Randy Moss, Tedy Bruschi, Rex Ryan, and Alex Smith, along with insider Adam Schefter. The network is also planning to redesign their sets in preparation for the epic event.
