In a bold move, Reed Hastings, the co-founder of Netflix and a prominent Democratic donor, has called on President Biden to step aside from the Democratic presidential ticket in order to allow a stronger leader to take on Trump and safeguard the nation’s prosperity.
While Mr. Biden has stated he has no intentions of stepping down, Mr. Hastings’s public plea reflects a growing sentiment among Democratic megadonors who believe a change in leadership is necessary for the party’s success.
Alongside his wife, Patty Quillin, Mr. Hastings has been a major supporter of the Democratic Party, contributing millions of dollars to various campaigns. Their significant donations have helped fund numerous super PACs dedicated to electing Democratic leaders to Congress.
In addition to Mr. Hastings’s call for new Democratic leadership, other influential figures in Hollywood, such as Ari Emanuel, are starting to voice their concerns about the current administration.
Known for his advocacy in education reform, Mr. Hastings has also been a strong supporter of racial justice initiatives alongside his wife. He has recently forged a close relationship with California Governor Gavin Newsom, who is being considered as a potential replacement for President Biden.
Having stepped down as CEO of Netflix to focus more on philanthropy, politics, and his passion for skiing, Mr. Hastings continues to be a driving force in shaping the political landscape.
