Texas stamped its authority as a national title contender with a commanding 31-12 victory over defending champion Michigan. The Longhorns capitalized on three takeaways by the defense and a stellar performance from quarterback Quinn Ewers.

Ranked No. 3, Texas snapped No. 10 Michigan’s 23-game home winning streak and handed them their first regular-season loss since October 2021. The Longhorns established a 24-3 lead in the first half and maintained their dominance throughout, holding Michigan to their lone touchdown in the final minutes of the game.

The victory showcased Texas’ potential as a legitimate national title threat, debunking any doubts about their prowess. Ewers orchestrated the offense brilliantly, displaying composure and accuracy. Surrounding Ewers, the team boasts abundant skill position talent and a formidable defense. Head coach Steve Sarkisian’s strategic calling also played a crucial role in Texas’ success.

Texas’ Path to the Playoff

Texas’ convincing win over Michigan positions them favorably for a 12-team CFP run. With upcoming games against UTSA and ULM at home, followed by Mississippi State and key matchups with Oklahoma and Georgia, the Longhorns have a promising journey ahead. Despite facing challenges in SEC play, Texas remains confident in their CFP prospects.

Michigan’s Struggles

Michigan’s unexpected setback reveals their shortcomings under new head coach Sherrone Moore. While losing to a top-tier opponent like Texas isn’t shameful, the manner of defeat raises concerns about Michigan’s defensive vulnerabilities and offensive limitations. The Wolverines’ CFP chances plummeted after their defeat, prompting a need for urgent improvements to salvage their season.

Quarterback Concerns for Michigan

Michigan’s quarterback situation poses challenges, with starter Davis Warren struggling to deliver against formidable opponents. The team’s offensive woes stem from inconsistent quarterback play, prompting speculation about alternative options like Alex Orji and potential returns for Jack Tuttle and Jadyn Davis. Finding a viable solution is imperative for Michigan’s competitiveness moving forward.

Texas’ Successful Reload

Despite significant departures, Texas showcased its recruitment prowess and depth with impactful contributions from new additions and existing players. Strong performances from receivers, tight ends, and running backs exemplify the team’s adaptability and talent acquisition strategy. The Longhorns’ resilience and versatility bode well for their prospects in the SEC.
